Wooden sleeper type 3 — an element of the railway superstructure used for rail installation on low-traffic, access, and construction tracks. It ensures stable rail positioning and reliable load transfer to the ballast base under low traffic intensity.

Description and construction

Type 3 wooden sleepers are manufactured in accordance with GOST 78-2004 from softwood timber of grades I–III (pine, spruce, larch). After mechanical processing, the sleepers are dried and treated with creosote or oil-based antiseptic compounds under pressure in autoclaves. This treatment ensures long service life and protection against rot, insects, and moisture.

Provide reliable fastening of rail types R-33 and R-43;
Have reduced dimensions compared to types 1 and 2;
Used on category III–V tracks and temporary sections;
Service life — up to 20 years with proper installation and impregnation.

Application

Type 3 wooden sleepers are used on industrial, construction, and auxiliary railway lines, as well as access tracks of enterprises and stations. They are compatible with rail types R-33 and R-43 and all types of light-duty base plates (D-43, KB-43). Commonly applied in the construction of temporary and lightweight railway sections.
