Rail tongs — a manual track maintenance tool designed for gripping and carrying rails, turnout components, and other metal structures of the railway track. Used during track laying, dismantling, repair, and maintenance of the permanent way. Provide safe and convenient transportation of rails by workers without the use of mechanized equipment.

Description and design

Rail tongs are manufactured in accordance with DSTU GOST 11384-75 (GOST 11386-75) and represent a lever-type gripping mechanism with two elongated handles and movable jaws that automatically clamp the rail when lifted. The design ensures reliable holding of the rail without slipping and minimal physical effort by workers. All elements are made of high-strength steel resistant to bending and impact loads.

The jaws are profiled for rails of types R-43, R-50, R-65;
Self-tightening mechanism provides automatic clamping under load;
Pivot joint ensures uniform load distribution;
Handles are equipped with non-slip grips for comfortable handling;
The tool is designed for repeated use under heavy operating conditions.

Application

Rail tongs are used on railway tracks during installation of new rails, dismantling of old ones, and movement of rail sections and turnout components. They are employed by repair, installation, and track construction crews. Allow carrying rails up to 25 m long by two or four workers with minimal labor effort.
