Claw crowbar — a manual railway track tool designed for lifting, aligning and moving elements of the railway superstructure. It is used during installation and dismantling of rails, turnouts, sleepers and rail panels. Applied in both major and routine maintenance of railway lines, as well as during track laying and alignment.
The claw crowbar is manufactured in accordance with GOST 2590-88 and is a round-section metal bar with two differently shaped ends: a pointed end for prying and loosening soil, and a claw-shaped end for lifting and rolling heavy objects (rails, sleepers, fishplates). The tool is made of high-strength steel, quenched and tempered to improve impact toughness and wear resistance.
Claw crowbars are used in railway track repair and installation works for lifting rails and sleepers, adjusting the position of baseplates, track alignment, dismantling worn elements and installing new ones. They are part of the standard hand tools used by track and installation crews on mainline, station and industrial railways.
