Pointed crowbar — a heavy-duty hand tool designed for demanding track works: lifting and shifting sleepers, prying rails, loosening ballast, and removing large stones and soil. It is an essential tool for railway track repair, dismantling, and installation.

Description and design

Pointed crowbars are manufactured in accordance with TU 32 TsP 587-78 (GOST 1405-83) from high-quality carbon steel. The tool is a round-section metal bar with one pointed end used for prying, aligning, and piercing, and the opposite end thickened and used as a support when working with heavy track elements. Due to its length and weight, the crowbar provides high leverage with minimal physical effort.

Manufactured by hot forging followed by quenching and tempering;
The pointed end is sharpened for work with hard soil and ballast;
The surface is coated with a protective anti-corrosion compound;
Resistant to bending, impact, and dynamic loads;
Service life — over 10 years under regular operation.

Application

The pointed crowbar is used during routine and major track maintenance, alignment and installation of sleepers, turnouts, and rail sections. It is applied for loosening ballast, prying sleepers and baseplates, adjusting rail position, and leveling the foundation. It is indispensable for manual earthworks and installation tasks performed by track maintenance crews.
