Sleeper tongs — a manual tool designed for gripping and carrying wooden and reinforced concrete sleepers during the construction, repair, and maintenance of railway tracks. They ensure safe and convenient handling of sleepers by workers without the use of lifting equipment and are used during track laying and alignment.
Sleeper tongs are manufactured in accordance with DSTU GOST 11384-75 (GOST 11435-75) and feature a robust lever-type gripping design with two handles and movable jaws. When lifting a sleeper, the jaws automatically tighten, ensuring secure holding. The structure is resistant to bending and impact loads, allowing the tool to be used in intensive track works.
Sleeper tongs are used during the installation and dismantling of railway tracks, sleeper replacement, track switch laying, as well as during restoration works on main lines and stations. They are used by track maintenance crews for carrying wooden and reinforced concrete sleepers and for their precise positioning during installation.
