Railway socket wrench — a hand tool designed for tightening and loosening nuts of railway bolts in track fastenings. Used during installation and maintenance of railway tracks, especially in areas with limited access where open-end wrenches are difficult to use. Ensures reliable engagement with the nut and safe transmission of torque without damaging the flats.

Description and design

The railway socket wrench is manufactured in accordance with GOST 25788-83 from tool steel followed by quenching and tempering. The wrench head is made in the form of a cylindrical socket with a hexagonal opening precisely matching the nut size. A long handle or tommy bar provides ease of operation and allows the application of significant force when tightening joint bolts and clamp fastenings.

The working part is heat-treated to achieve a hardness of 42–50 HRC;
The design prevents slipping and rounding of nut edges;
The tool withstands torque up to 600 N·m;
The surface is phosphated or oxidized for corrosion protection;
The wrench can be equipped with a removable tommy bar for convenient operation in confined spaces.

Application

Railway socket wrenches are used for servicing rail joints, turnouts, clamp and anchor fastenings. They are applied by maintenance and installation crews for servicing rail connections on mainline, station, and industrial tracks. The tool allows quick and safe tightening or loosening of nuts during track overhaul.
